The lesbian film Soongava: Dance of the Orchids is being submitted by Nepal as their contender for next year’s foreign-language Oscar category according to Variety.
‘Soongava’ tells the tale of independent and strong-willed Diya, a Nepalese dancer. She develops a close relationship with fellow dance pupil, Kiran. Distraught at the news that her parents have found a suitor for her to marry, Diya and Kiran deepen their relationship and become lovers. Breaking off her engagement Diya risks everything to be with Kiran.
Although not a big draw at its home box office at the time of its release in early 2012, its entry into several international festivals in Palm Springs, Toronto, Montreal and Bologna have pushed Nepal’s first lesbian film into international prominence.
“Soongava” was written and directed by Subarna Thapa. Produced by French companies Rapsodie Production and veteran producer Raphael Berdugo’s Cite Films with Nepal’s Ami Films.

So its been reported and analyzed with an inch of its life that ‘Orange Is the New Black’ star Laura Prepon is likely to be leaving the Netflix’s hit series. Since Prepon, who plays Alex Vause, a drug smuggler and one-time girlfriend to Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling) has yet to confirm or deny the rumors, all we do know is that she will appear in during season two.
Whether that is so she can wrap up her story-line or continue a new arc is unknown, however when BuzzFeed first broke the story about Prepon departure as a series regular it was denied by Netflix execs, who said that the reports were, “not accurate. Our season is still developing and nothing is confirmed.”
Speculation as to reasons why Prepon would leave the hit series, have caused some to tie her leaving because of her involvement with Scientology. Whatever the reason, the door has been left open for her return according to sources close to the show. The actress did not sign a contract tying her to the show for the upcoming season.
